Shontelle Layne or Shontelle as she is popularly known is a popular singer and songwriter hailing from Barbados. She was born on 4th October 1983. She featured along with Rihanna in the music video of “Roll It” which was performed by J-Status. Recently Street Records Corporation signed deal with Shontelle. Her song “T-Shirt” was adjudged the best song of the year on the popular Barbados Music Awards (BMA), in the year 2009.

Her debut single “T-Shirt” which was released in July 2008 is her best work till date and it even reached its peak position of 36 in Hot 100. Initially it was just a mild hit, but it eventually rose to peak position of UK R&B chart. This song made Shontelle popular overnight. Shontelligence, her debut album was released almost a month after its initial date of release and it got mixed responses from the people as well as critics. Even though it reached at 115th position on Billboard 200, but it was able to sold only 18000 copies.

Despite failure of her debut album, she gave many live performances including at 18th Annual Kissmas Bash, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Bras Across DC Little Pink Dress party etc. She was also a part of the United Kingdom leg of the famous New Kids on the Block tour, which took place in January 2009. She also took part in Springroove Music Festival and performed at many cities across Japan. From May to June in the same year she was touring many countries along with Beyonce.

She is more popular in UK than she is in her home country. Her few songs like Stuck with Each Other, “T-Shirt” and “Battle Cry” became extremely popular and reached to top positions on various UK music charts.

Shontelle has also garnered huge support by her short stint on television, as a host in a popular fashion reality series named My Prom Style. Presently she is working on her second album and also seeking assistance and guidance from various top notches of music industry including Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. Shontelle has made some abrupt changes in her second album and she is experimenting with rock sound. Her fans are eagerly waiting for some good numbers from this hot rock chick.  Her latest is “Licky (Under the Covers)” which is just released and reviews of this number are awaited.
